When Should You Quit Your Business!

Has your business made any sales yet? Have you been struggling to make a profit in a business you’ve been working on for at least a year?

So should you quit your business? Well in order to answer that I need to tell you a short little story first.

Storytime

Several years ago when I was 22 years old I joined Amway.  They sold me on the idea that I could live a better life and have freedom. For years I thought I was selling a business opportunity and soap, but the truth of the matter is, what I was selling was a lifestyle. For years I went to the meetings, read the books, listen to the CD’s at that time, and tried to show the plan to as many people as I possibly could. I spent thousands on this business! I gave up everything to make it successful. Hoping that one day I would be one of those select few that got up on stage to talk about my journey.

Sadly after 5 years and thousands of dollars later, the only thing I had to show for it was a business mindset and empty pockets. I have to admit, for years, I was a little bitter that I was not getting the results I expected and made one of the toughest decisions I had ever made in my life up to that point. I had decided that after spending thousands and investing 5 years of my life, it was time to cut the cord and move on to something that I could make money from.

So, why am I telling you all of this? Well, because I think a lot of you are in the same situation I found myself in. You have invested in a business for years trying to make it a success.  Having spent tons of time and money, and have yet to see any fruits from your labor, you need to cut ties and move on to another business that shows much more promise and has the potential for you to profit!

So, how do you know if it is time to throw in the towel?

On one side of the coin you don’t want to be known as a quitter, but you feel trapped and don’t know what to do. Well, there is no easy answer as to when it’s a good time to switch vehicles.  I am not here to tell you to give up on your dreams, or to tell you to quit! Depending on the business, it may take years but you should at least see some forward movement within a year.  Even if you had not made a profit yet here’s a few key tips I would recommend before you do anything dramatic.

  • Try to “10X your efforts“. Meaning become obsessed with your business! Cut out TV, Video Games, Etc. Map out a little family time, of course, and invest the rest of your time towards growing your business.
  • Take a hard look at your activities. Is there more you could be doing? This is generally the main reason your business is not at the level you were shooting for. Is it because you’re not working it consistent enough?
  • Have you done your research?  Have you researched other companies on Google and Youtube to see if they are making more profit in a faster time frame? What could you be doing to obtain the same results?
  • Do you have a passion for the business?  Do you enjoy building the business? Do you just desire the lifestyle the business could bring you? If you only desire this projected lifestyle, yet have no passion for what you are doing to obtain it, then maybe it’s time to move on to something in life that you are far more passionate about!

Those were the key things I pondered on when I decided to quit Amway and move on.  At first, it was hard and I was unsure of what I was going to do.  I had to take some time off before starting my next empire. Hopefully, you at least know whether or not to move forward, or if it’s time to admit that the business is not for you, and it’s time to move on to something new.

The key point I am trying to make here by posting this article is to heighten your sense of awareness and possibly help some of you from making the same mistakes I made! For the most part, I did not enjoy my business with Amway and had zero passion for it! All I was chasing was the lifestyle. I knew if I could find a business that I was passionate about, and put in the same work ethic I did with Amway, I would be a huge success!!

There is plenty of opportunities out there for you to choose from. So many people get stuck because they feel like there’s nothing else out there for them. I want to ensure you there is a huge abundance of business opportunities out there for you to choose from. As long as you keep trying new things you will eventually find your passion and your ideal business. Just to list a few of the different businesses you could pursue…
